What do kids get out of YBC?

Bowling in a YBC league offers the member many benefits. Kids get ACTIVE with regular, moderate exercise and improve their coordination, balance and motor skills. The team dynamics of bowling also helps to improve social skills through positive interaction with peers. The concepts and importance of Sportsmanship and Fair Play are reinforced by coaches and volunteers. Bowlers also learn about setting personal goals for themselves and receive achievement awards throughout the season in recognition of personal and team accomplishments.

What does YBC offer its members?

YBC offers qualified coaching in a fun and safe environment, complete with a Rewards Program to recognize Personal and Team Achievements. Equal participation and contribution by all members, regardless of ability, is a key feature of the program and of kids developing self-confidence. YBC is also a perfect opportunity to learn the ideals of sport in a non-aggressive and friendly environment, whatever the age. Three (3) age divisions ensure kids are teamed up with children their own age and lead to the creation of many NEW FRIENDS and lots of FUN.

    How much does it cost?

The registration fee for YBC is $40.00. The weekly cost ranges depending on which division the bowler is in, but usually ranges between $10-$15/week which includes shoe rental.

How do I sign up for YBC?

Simply contact us at 780-538-2695 (BOWL).

How long does the season last? What if I can't make it every week?

The bowling season typically goes from early September to late April. If you aren't able to make it for a week or two, you can pre-bowl anytime during the week for that weekend and you will still retain your perfect attendance.

    How often will I bowl?

Leagues play once a week, typically on Saturday mornings. Some divisions will bowl on Sundays. Leagues also allow for weeks when you'll be away (on family trips, etc.) by having bowlers "bowl ahead" so that your team is not hurt by your absence.

I have never bowled before. Do I have to compete with people better than me?

All bowlers are given a handicap based on their ability, which ensures that everyone is on a level playing field. Everyone plays and contributes equally and the handicap system ensures that everyone is an important member of their team.....in bowling NO ONE WARMS THE BENCH!

    What can I win?

Leagues differ, but almost all of them provide a banquet at the end of the year and award various prizes and trophies. Also, throughout the year there are crests that can be earned for achievement, participation, etc.

Am I bowling with people my own age?

The YBC is broken down into three age divisions. Depending on the number of bowlers in the program, you would bowl in a shift with those in your age category and meet many new friends.

The age divisions are as follows:

Bowlasaurus: up to 5 years old
Peewees: up to 7 years old
Bantams: up to 10 years old
Juniors: up to 13 years old
Seniors: up to 19 years old

Can I bowl in tournaments even if I'm not a good bowler?

Most tournaments are played using a handicap system (or on a pins over average basis) so everyone has a chance to win, regardless of their ability. The philosophy behind these events is the promotion of sportsmanship and the development of experience in an organized event.

    Do I need special equipment?

You need to wear bowling shoes, which the rental is included with your YBC membership. Bowling balls are also provided at the centre. You can also purchase your own equipment through our Pro Centre.

Do I have to buy any equipment?

Everything you need is available at the bowling centre at no charge.

What do I wear to go bowling?

Some YBC programs provide special bowling shirts to wear. Otherwise, loose fitting, comfortable clothing is fine.

    How long does it take?

Bowling typically takes about 2 hours per week, depending on the size of the program.

How many games do I play?

Typically, most divisions play 3 games, however the younger divisions will play 2 games.

Do I get any free bowling?

When you register with YBC, you will receive 12 free games of bowling with your membership card.

How old do I have to be?

For YBC, you can start as young as 3, and bowl until you are 19. Bowling is a LIFE SKILL and becomes a recreation and sport that you can enjoy well beyond your youth. Many people in their eighties and nineties continue to enjoy bowling as a means of maintaining a healthy and social lifestyle. After YBC, there are many leagues available to join! Check out League Info for more info!

Is it team or individual competition?

Both - bowlers are placed on teams, and compete against other teams and there is also individual competition with the other players in your league.

Where can I learn about the rules of bowling?

Your coaches and program director will teach you the basics.
